We’ve had a Smart Temp thermostat (SMT-770) for about 10 years and it’s never missed a beat. Approaching retirement, we are spending more time at the beach house as opposed to the city, but picking the time to return home has been influenced by the temperature of the day and whether we are going to encounter a hot house or an igloo upon our return.
I contacted Peter at Smart Temp and explained that we were after a unit that could be connected to the home WiFi and operated through an app remotely. After sending Peter a photo of the current unit as well as the wiring behind the main panel (which he guided me on how to remove quite easily), the wiring was revealed.
Peter came back to me promptly with a recommended unit the Halo 850 which has a terrific 7 inch screen, and said that it would be easy to remove the old thermostat and install the new one myself.
As the Knoxfield office is close by to my workplace, I picked up the new unit (and even received a discount for being a returning customer) and rang my friend an electrical engineer to ask for some
Supervision (code for come and install my new thermostat please mate).
The following day after old mate acquainted himself with the installation guide, we literally had the old unit off and new installed within 10 minutes. And presto, it was up and running instantly after we turned the power back on to the heating and cooling unit.
It was so easy to connect to the WiFi and it provides a 7 day weather forecast, the ability to schedule when it comes on and off (so easily) and so many more features depending on whether you have multi zones or a single zone, fan speeds etc.
And, the app. Oh so easy to install and operate and now I can come home when the traffic suits me knowing that the house will be the right temperature when we arrive!
